New Play Circle

City Theatre’s investment in new plays typically begins long before the first rehearsal. Sometimes artistic director Tracy Brigden will commission a playwright to write a particular piece; other times, she will schedule plays by writers who’ve been here before or whom she wants to introduce to you.

Regardless of where the plays come from, the foundation for our investment in new plays and playwrights comes from the members of our New Play Circle. These passionate theatre-goers understand the long-term nature of investing in new work and want their giving to have a direct impact on the core of City’s mission.

Membership in the New Play Circle is available to donors of $3,000 or more. Besides the benefits the Annual Fund page, New Play Circle members also receive complimentary parking and refreshments at all City Theatre performances, an invitation to the annual New Play Circle Dinner, invitations to all four mainstage Opening Night Parties at Elixir Ultra Lounge, a pair of gift subscriptions for a friend or nonprofit organization, and concierge service for house seats to theatre performances in New York, London and elsewhere.

Two new membership categories recognize donors of $5,000 and $10,000 or more. The Playwrights Corner is for donors of $5,000 to $9,999; members receive an invitation to the annual New Play Circle Dinner, complimentary parking and refreshments at City Theatre, recognition on the title page and marquee as co-sponsors of a play; are invited to a welcome reception and farewell toast with the cast of the sponsored play and six complimentary tickets to the opening night performance and party.

Donors of $10,000 or more are enrolled in the Producers Roundtable, which includes an invitation to the annual New Play Circle Dinner, complimentary parking and refreshments at the theatre, invitations to all four mainstage opening night cast parties, a pair of gift subscriptions, concierge service for house seats in New York and London, recognition on the title page and marquee of the sponsored play; a welcome reception with the cast of the sponsored play and ten complimentary tickets to the opening night celebration for the sponsored play.
