City Theatre is pleased to announce that Michele Pawk, Tony Award-winner and Butler native, will star in Robert Hewett’s The Blonde, the Brunette and the Vengeful Redhead. Lou Jacob directs the one-performer play that will run May 8–30 on City Theatre’s Main Stage on Pittsburgh’s South Side.
Ms. Pawk received the 2003 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her critically acclaimed performance in Hollywood Arms. She is a three-time Drama Desk Award nominee. Other Broadway credits include Hairspray, Mama Mia!, Merrily We Roll Along, The Paris Letter, and Crazy for You. Film and television credits include Cradle Will Rock, appearances on all three Law & Order franchises, Jeffrey, Quantum Leap, The Golden Girls, and L.A. Law. Ms. Pawk attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania and the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati.
“We are thrilled to bring Michele Pawk back to Western Pennsylvania,” said Tracy Brigden, City Theatre’s Artistic Director. “This play takes the audience on an extraordinary journey, and it demands an actress with considerable presence, enormous range, and outstanding comedic skill.”
Robert Hewett’s The Blonde, the Brunette and the Vengeful Redhead premiered at the Stables Theatre in Sydney, Australia in 2004. It has since played to packed houses in New Zealand, Canada, and across the U.S.
One performer, seven characters … Everyone has a story about the day that Rhonda, a desperate housewife, loses it at the mall. The unexpected revenge she finds is more than anyone bargained for. Michele Pawk transforms onstage into all seven characters as each new voice reveals more twists to this tale of love and vengeance.
The design team includes Tony Ferrieri (Scenic), Robert C.T. Steele (Costume), Andrew Ostrowski (Lighting), and Jane Shaw (Sound).
